The Union Boat Club of Boston

The Union Boat Club was founded in 1851 as a private athletic club in the Beacon Hill neighborhood of the city of Boston. UBC boasts active and competitive programs in Rowing, Squash, and Fives. UBC squash teams regularly compete in State League and Individual tournaments, and our crews have strong records in regattas from the Head of the Charles to the Henley Royal Regatta.

Today the club provides rowing and training facilities at our boathouse on the Charles River Esplanade. Our rowing programs include: Sculling, Men’s and Women’s Sweep, and a Master’s Sweep group.

Squash

A significant percentage of UBC members are not rowers, and enjoy the club’s  top-flight squash facilities, including five international courts and one North American hardball court.

Fives

Fives, historically referred to as hand-tennis, is an English handball sport with roots in jeu de paume. It shares similarities with handball, Basque pelota, and squash. The game is played in both singles and doubles teams, utilizing a three- or four-sided court.
